Our Philosophy

Strong roots build resilient learners

At RoOTEd in Learning, we understand that education is not solely about academic performance. With an emphasis on holistic development, we believe that addressing underlying needs like self-regulation and emotional safety is crucial for nurturing growth and promoting effective learning.

Why it works

Our approach is different because we look deeper. We take the time to understand why a child is struggling by examining the underlying systems that support learning: regulation, sensory processing, motor development, executive functioning, communication, relationships, and emotional well-being.

When we strengthen the roots, everything built on top becomes more stable. Confidence grows. Frustration decreases. Learning feels possible again.

Because real progress isn't about pushing harder—it's about building stronger foundations.

Lane Sisak, M.Ed., C.A.G.S.
Founder | Special Educator | Consultant

I’m a special educator, consultant, and advocate with over two decades of experience supporting students with autism, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, learning differences, sensory needs, communication challenges, and complex learning profiles. My experience in both school-based and individualized settings has shaped my belief that meaningful support starts with understanding the whole person, not simply their diagnosis, disability, or challenges.

RoOTEd in Learning was created to provide practical, individualized support for individuals, families, educators, schools, and organizations across all ages and stages of life.

RoOTEd in Learning offers support in autism-informed practice, educational advocacy, IEP and 504 consultation, executive functioning, academic and functional learning, classroom consultation, professional learning, teacher coaching, assistive technology, sensory and regulation strategies, independence, and student-specific problem solving.

My specialty is developing individualized plans based on who the person is, where they are, what they need, and where they want to go. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning or support.

I am especially passionate about supporting individuals as they transition beyond school-based services and into adulthood, helping them build independence, confidence, meaningful routines, community participation, and skills that support the life they want to live.

Whether I’m working with a young child, a student, an adult, a family, an educator, or a school district, my goal is the same: to meet people where they are and help them feel heard, important, valued, capable, and included.

Rooted in Learning provides flexible in-person, virtual, and hybrid services designed around the unique needs of each individual, family, school, or organization.

Priscilla Nova  OT/L
Founder | Occupational Therapist | Consultant

I am a pediatric occupational therapist with 16 years of experience working with children, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Boston College and my master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Boston University.

My career began in Early Intervention, where I developed a strong foundation in child development, family-centered practice, and supporting children within their natural environments. I continue to provide Early Intervention services today. My experience also includes five years working within a specialized private school for children with diverse developmental, sensory, behavioral, and learning needs, giving me firsthand experience with the opportunities and challenges that arise when supporting children across home, school, and community environments.

I currently own and operate a pediatric occupational therapy practice in Rhode Island while continuing to contract with Early Intervention programs. My clinical work focuses on helping children participate more successfully in the activities and routines that are meaningful to their daily lives. Areas of support may include sensory processing and regulation, fine motor development, self-care and independence, play, attention, transitions, emotional regulation, and participation in home and educational routines.

Through this collaborative initiative, I partner with an experienced special educator with an extensive background in both Rhode Island public and private school settings. Together, we bring complementary perspectives from occupational therapy and special education to help bridge the gap between clinical recommendations, educational expectations, and the realities of everyday family life.

Our goal is to provide parents, caregivers, educators, schools, and organizations with practical, understandable, and realistic strategies for supporting children with diverse learning and developmental needs. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, we focus on understanding the individual child, identifying factors that may be affecting participation or learning, and helping the adults in that child’s life develop strategies that can be incorporated into everyday routines and educational environments.

By combining occupational therapy and special education expertise, we aim to empower the adults who support children every day with greater understanding, practical tools, and confidence—ultimately creating environments in which children with diverse needs have greater opportunities to participate, learn, grow, and succeed.

Our Services

Helping families feel informed, prepared, and confident.

Navigating IEPs, evaluations, school meetings, and educational decisions can feel overwhelming. Rooted in Learning helps families understand the information in front of them, identify areas of concern, prepare for important conversations, and advocate for supports that truly reflect their child’s needs.

Advocacy

Sometimes the question isn't “What's wrong with this student?” but “What can we change about the environment, instruction, or supports?” Rooted in Learning works alongside schools and educators to observe, identify barriers, develop practical recommendations, and help put those recommendations into action.

Classroom and School Consulting

Supporting the people who support students every day.

Teachers and school teams don't need another list of strategies—they need support figuring out which strategies will actually work for their students. Rooted in Learning provides individualized coaching, professional development, consultation, and collaborative problem-solving designed to build educator confidence and capacity.

Educator Support

Meeting students where they are and helping them move forward.

Learning doesn't happen the same way for every student. Rooted in Learning provides individualized support that considers the whole learner, including academic skills, executive functioning, communication, independence, functional learning, and social learning. Support is personalized to build meaningful skills that students can use beyond the lesson—and beyond the classroom.

Student and Family Support

Thinking outside the box to uncover what’s getting in the way of learning, participation, and independence—from initial screening and consultation to individualized private therapy.
